Refereeing with Diamond Valley Roller Derby Club

WHAT IS ROLLER DERBY?

Flat track roller derby is a fast-paced, full-contact sport played by two teams of five skaters—four blockers and one jammer, who scores points by passing the opposing team's blockers. While players can't punch, kick, or head-butt, they can legally use their shoulders, hips, and torso to block and outmanoeuvre their opponents.

WHY REFEREES MATTER

Referees are essential to every game, ensuring play is safe, fair, and in accordance with the rules. A full officiating crew consists of a Head Referee, two Jammer Referees, one Inside Pack Referee, and up to three Outside Pack Referees.

Refereeing is a fantastic way to stay involved in roller derby, challenge yourself on skates, and play a vital role in every game.

Like players, skating referees wear protective gear, including a helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads, and a mouthguard is recommended.
